Journal Entry 9

May 20, 2025. The responses are starting to trickle in, and with them, my first rejections. Each one stings, a reminder of how subjective this process is. It’s hard not to take it personally, to see these rejections as a reflection of my worth as a writer.

But I'm learning to view them differently. Each "no" is a step closer to the "yes" I'm hoping for. These agents are professionals, and their feedback, even in the form of a rejection, is valuable. It's part of the learning process, helping me to refine my approach and understand the market better.

I’ve started keeping a journal of the feedback I receive. It’s a way to track my progress and see where I can improve. Some rejections are form letters, but others include thoughtful comments and suggestions. They’re helping me see my work from new perspectives.

Rejection is also teaching me about resilience and self-belief. It’s easy to lose faith in my story, to let the negative voices take over. But I remind myself why I started this journey. My love for storytelling and the world I’ve created is what drives me forward.

I’m also finding solace in the community of writers around me. Sharing experiences and supporting each other through the highs and lows has been invaluable. We’re all on this path together, and that sense of camaraderie is a source of strength.

The road to publication is filled with obstacles, but each rejection is a sign that I’m one step closer to my goal. For now, I’m embracing this part of the journey and holding on to the belief that my story will find its home.
